Mt. Union Methodist Church welcomes all people seeking to worship God in a community of Christian growth. We are a church of rich Wesleyan tradition, orthodox scriptural teaching and a fervent desire to mature in our faith through the grace of God, His Son, Jesus Christ and His constant presence of the Holy Spirit.
In our desire to make disciples for Christ, Mt. Union emphasizes:
Faith, Family and Fellowship
Vibrant Southern Gospel music as an integral element of worship
Study & learning opportunities for all ages
Outreach to the congregation and community at large
Prayerful covenant in hours of need as well as celebration

In June 2023, the congregation of Mt. Union voted unanimously to join the Global Methodist Church. The important strength of relationship and shared community was a critical factor in the decision. Our desire to love the world as Christ does reflects the more than 175 year heritage of this church’s commitment to “loving God and serving others” (John Wesley) in our community. Mt. Union began when community residents Elizabeth Napier and Jacob & Bathsheba Teel felt led to come together in weekly prayer meetings in their homes. Soon their families and neighbors joined the meetings and surrendered their live to Christ. As this faithful group grew, Jacob Teel corresponded to receive a Methodist Circuit Rider to being preaching to the developing congregation. Soon he donated a parcel of land, and the first church building was erected using lumber milled from the site. The location of the original building remains the foundation of the current church campus.
Jacob Teel did not live to see the completion of the first church building; however, today there are members who are direct descendants of the church founders. Tradition and heritage are sources of pride for Mt. Union, but never more so than the development and creation of new and evolving ministries.
Meet Our Pastor

I'm Chay Smithson, or simply Bro. Chay to the good people at Mt. Union. My wife, Amy, and I moved to Scottsville in the Summer of 2022 when I took an appointment at Mt. Union. We have two amazing kiddos who are deeply loved by the community.
I have a deep passion for Biblical discussions and love teaching the scriptures. My goal as a pastor is to lead the church into a deeper relationship with Christ and the community. Mt. Union is a church that is passionate about fellowship. Whether that is Bible Study or our annual Fish Fry, our goal is to be a place that welcomes the whole community. As a pastor I focus on incorporating all generations in worship and fellowship. I would love to meet you and have you participate in our faith community.
